St Brigid’s Day

Look at our St. Brigid’s Crosses.
We were happy with our St. Brigid’s crosses.
We brought our St. Brigid’s Crosses home and we left one for Sacred Space at school

On Wednesday, February 1st we made St Brigid’s crosses to celebrate her feast day.

Catholic Schools Week

We had a wonderful week celebrating Catholic Schools Week. We had a lovely assembly to open the week’s celebrations. Some classes made St. Brigid’s Crosses, others had prayer services and some more researched the work of the Sisters of Mercy Foundress, Catherine McAuley. On February 2nd 1882, 130 years  ago, the first Sisters of Mercy came to Granard. We had a very enjoyable afternoon with our grandparents on Wednesday. We sang some hymns and Irish tradtional songs. We did Set Dancing too!   On Thursday, we went to St. Mary’s Church for morning Mass. Pupils, parents, staff and parishioners took part in the Mass.  We lived out the Catholic Spirit of our School. Fr. Cadam and Fr. Flynn gave us the blessing of St. Blaise for our throats. We finished the week on Friday afternoon with a prayer service in the school hall and a pupil from each class spoke about how their class spent Catholic Schools Week. Well done everyone!
