Skipathon 2012

We would like to thank Miss. Drake for organising the Skipathon day. We had a great time and we were delighted to be part of the fundraiser for The Irish Heart Foundation. Well done everyone!!

Low Energy Day

On March 29th we held a ‘Low Energy Day’. This meant that we did not use the lights all day, we turned off the heating at 9.30 a.m and we took part in activities in the classroom and outside the classroom that did not involve using electrical energy. We used only our own body’s energy!!! We were very lucky as it was a lovely bright spring day so there was lots of natural sunlight beaming into our classrooms.

This day helped us to realise that there is lots we can still do without the use of electrical energy so TURN IT OFF when we do not need it!! Well done everyone on your efforts!

Green Schools Poster Competition

We have all been doing alot of work in the past year trying to get our 2nd Green Flag for our efforts on saving energy. I am very happy to announce that we have been awarded our Green Flag for Energy. The award ceremony will take place on May 23rd in Athlone. We will also be organising a big celebratory day in school after this date to raise our 2nd Green Flag. A celebritiy may also be there on the day to raise the flag for us………who would you like to make an appearance??????

Here are some photos from the poster campaign on ‘Saving Energy’. Well done to all the winners and to everyone who took part. Your posters are on walls throughout the school reminding us every day to SAVE ENERGY!!!!

World Book Day-Book Swap

To celebrate ‘World Book Day’, we in Sacred Heart held a book swap. Children brought in all their used books and we set up a book shop. The children were given a token for every book they brought in and were able to ‘buy’ books with their tokens. This is a great way of recycling the books we loved once upon a time and now they have a new owner to enjoy like we did. Well done to everyone who took part and hopefully we can do this every year.

Happy reading!

A visit from Longford GAA!

The children in 5th class were delighted when some of the Longford players visited our class today. They showed us the National Football League Division 3 Cup which they won in Croke Park on April 28th!
